I love doing "then and nows" and it's so much fun to continue a theme to have coordinating images to hang in the nursery, display at baby's first birthday party, or have made into an album! Cake smashes are all about capturing your baby's first taste of birthday cake! Some babies love their cake, gobble it up and smash it to pieces; some are weirded out by the gooey texture of the frosting; some are more interested in the decorations or crawling around the studio; and some are completely terrified of their cake and want nothing to do with it! I feel like many parents make a point to have professional newborn and first birthday pictures done but miss out on the great "sitter" stage. This is the BEST stage to photograph! Babies at this 6-9 month stage can sit up unassisted so we're not limited to supine posing or props for support, smiles are easily coaxed out of them and they generally aren't as wary of strangers, they are immobile (if we get them in before crawling) so we don't have to chase them around the stud
